| Parish Liturgical Principles and Style |
 |
Epiphany is a Eucharistically-centered parish. The liturgical
leaders come from the laity – women, men and children –
as much as possible. We utilize excellent music, silence, maximum
participation by worshipers, and creative liturgy in order to
shape an environment in which the people can sense both the immanence
and transcendence of God.
The 8:00 Sunday Eucharist is celebrated by at least 200 homeless
men and women, parishioners, and visitors. We use an inclusive
language liturgy, sing familiar spirituals, invite guests to read
lessons and lead prayers, and often have African-American musicians.
The 11:00 Sunday Eucharist is celebrated by around 125 very diverse
worshipers; it is sung Rite II. The music is lead by a professional/volunteer
choir, and the organ is one of the best in the city. A Laying
on of Hands for Healing follows the Communion of the People.
The Eucharist is celebrated on weekdays (except Tuesday) from
12:10 to around 12:30. The Monday Eucharist is contemplative,
with periods of silence. The Wednesday Eucharist includes healing. |
