Evangelism

Come and See
All of us have friends, colleagues, or family members who are looking for something - something that the world cannot give.  Epiphany is a church that is intentional about how we open our doors (and hearts) to those who are seeking.  Our location downtown near Metro Center, our Westminster chimes, our emails and other mailings are all effective tools of evangelism. But, it is that personal invitation that makes a difference.  We are called to share the invitation.  It’s not up to us how someone responds – that’s God’s work. Find out more about Evangelism - Epiphany Style.

Greeters
Each of us probably can recall how we were welcomed on our first visit to Epiphany. The way we receive each person who enters our doors is an important ministry. The purpose of greeting is to provide welcome to all who enter the doors of Epiphany. Our mission is to make visitors feel at home and valued, to direct people if needed, to answer questions about Epiphany, and to listen to their stories. Greeters are in the business of offering hospitality to all –members, newcomers, and visitors. The wonderfully paradoxical nature of this ministry is that greeters are both acting as hosts on behalf of Christ, and are greeting everyone as the bearers of Christ. The Risen Christ is both guest and host.

Christmas Eve Party
After Festival Holy Eucharist at 10:00 p.m., parishioners gather in the fellowship hall for a celebration.

Mardi Gras
Come celebrate Mardi Gras with us! Fun, fellowship, great food and music. Who will be crowned king or queen of Mardi Gras? New Orleans-style dinner, gumbo and king cake. Costumes encouraged! Mardi Gras 2006 is on Tuesday, February 28.

Parish Agape

Easter Vigil Party

Pentecost Picnic

Homecoming Lunch
Homecoming Lunch is held on the first Sunday after Labor Day to celebrate our faith community and fellowship with one another. Parishioners are invited to bring a dish to share.

Fall Parish Weekend
The Church of the Epiphany usually holds its annual retreat early each Fall at Shrine Mont (http://www.shrinemont.com/) in Orkney Springs, Virginia, 13 miles west of the town of Mt. Jackson, near the foot of Great North Mountain in the Shenandoah Valley. The long weekend offers parishioners an opportunity for rest, reflection, recreation, fellowship and study.

Annual Parish Meeting Lunch
The Annual Parish Meeting Lunch takes place every September. Vestry elections are included as an item of business.

Blessing of the Animals
In honor of saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, the parish held a service for the blessing of the animals, our fellow earth inhabitants on Sunday, October 2, 2005.  In keeping with the Christian principle of compassion, and our duty of stewardship toward animals through the dominion of love expressed in Genesis 1:26, we recognize a Christian duty of respect and care toward animals as part of God’s creation.  Let us keep the spirit of Psalm 148, by remembering that animals were created for the glory of God, to praise God’s name.

Welcome Table Thanksgiving
Every year, on the night before Thanksgiving Day, the Church of the Epiphany hosts a Thanksgiving dinner for members of the downtown community. Parishioners and members of the community are invited to not only enjoy the meal, but also to "sponsor" a guest to help offset costs. The menu typically features roasted turkey, dressing, gravy, yams, green beans, rolls, and pumpkin pie.

Fellowship

Coffee Hour
Everyone is encouraged to participate in hosting the hospitality hour on Sundays after worship. Please sign up on the Hospitality bulletin board to bring a food contribution on a Sunday of your choice (or you may bring a food contribution at any time as you wish whether or not you have signed up. Extra food is stored or frozen for future use). The Hospitality Committee needs contributions from about 7-8 people per Sunday in order to provide amply for the coffee hour. If we are to continue with coffee hours, which we all enjoy, it is necessary that all assist in making contributions a few times throughout the year. Kindly place the food in the kitchen, on a tray/bowl if time permits; the Hospitality Committee will make final preparations. You have been generous to date, but the supply has dwindled. Please contribute as the spirit moves you!

20s/30s Fellowship

The 20s / 30s Fellowship allows parishioners to gather together for spiritual, service and social events. Consisting of folks in their twenties and thirties, we meet regularly for monthly happy hours and Sunday brunch. We also get together for other events such as hiking, volunteering at local service agencies, and sporting events. We seek to build a fellowship and mutual support among younger parishioners through fun and fulfilling activities in addition to our worship and learning at Epiphany. For more information about the group, contact Tanya (tanyawash=@yahoo.com). Read more about the group.
