This Sunday, May 11, is the Day of Pentecost. We will celebrate with a Festival Pentecost Eucharist at 11am. The liturgy will include the blessing of a child, sending forth our seminarians, and the commissioning of parishioners
The readings assigned for Pentecost Day are: Acts 2:1-21, Psalm 104:25-35, 37b, 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13, and the Gospel of John 20:19-23. Our preacher at 8am and 11am is the Rev. Randolph Charles.
There is exciting news about out music this Sunday. The Epiphany Choir will be joined by an eleven-piece orchestra (strings, oboes, flutes, bassoon, trumpets & organ!) for a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s exciting and ravishing Pentecost Cantata 34, “O ewiges Feuer, o Ursprung der Liebe”. Bassoonist Ibby Roberts and Music Director Christian Clough will perform Gabriel Fauré’s Sicilienne, Op. 78 from his incidental music for Pélleas et Mélisande, using the Shinkman Steinway piano, in honor of Buck Shinkman, Epiphany parishioner and choir member, who died this past Monday. Festive processions, hymns and service music for congregation, choir, organ and orchestra will complete the musical celebration during our Whitsunday celebrations. Please come to pray, sing, and praise God with us this Sunday! And, bring a friend with you. The day will be full of celebration and end with a picnic. Here are details:
Everyone is encouraged to wear something red, as a way to signify the Holy Spirit among us. And, you can also wear clothing that typifies your native country.
Plan to stay after church for our annual Pentecost Picnic in the garden. We will provide the hamburgers and hot dogs. Please join the feast by bringing a dish. If your last name begins with these letters : A-D: Salads; E-M: Desserts; and N-Z: Vegetables or Side Dishes.
Godly Play, for children four to twelve, is takes place in the Godly Play Room on the second floor of the Parish House. Uchenna Alexander will be facilitating Godly Play. Karina Vassallo, Epiphany's Nursery Caregiver will be in the nursery to care for infants and young children.

Copies of Forward Day by Day for May -- July are available in the rack outside the Willard Room. The cost is 50¢ for the small booklets and $1.00 for the large print editions and can be left in the offering plate.

Sign up to volunteer and we'll make sure you receive a shirt - quantities are limited; don't delay! Welcome Table volunteers are needed to help carry out the outreach mission of The Church of the Epiphany. Each week 200 working poor and homeless people are served a nourishing breakfast in an atmosphere of care and respect. Volunteers are needed to help cook, serve, set up, pour coffee, sign in, greet and clear up. If there is one of these tasks you would enjoy, join the team! Join the OPALS (Older Persons with Active Lifestyles) for a docent-led tour at the Reynolds Center of the Smithsonian American Art Museum on Sunday, May 18, 1:00pm - Color as Field: American Painting, 1950-1975. This landmark exhibition examines the sources, meaning, and impact of the Color Field movement. Color Field painting emerged in the United States in the 1950s and is characterized by pouring, staining, spraying, or painting thinned paint onto raw canvas to create vast chromatic expanses. Your Credit Is Good at Epiphany. Since September, Epiphany has been able to process credit card payments for pledges, donations, payments, and tickets to events through its web site at www.epiphanydc.org. Click on the link from the main page to go directly to a secure web site. The first part of the form asks for your contact information. Next, you have an opportunity to specify whether you wish to make a donation, pledge, or purchase tickets for an upcoming event. The rest of the form changes according to your selection at this point. If you have ever bought something online, the experience will be very familiar to you - fill out your credit card information and submit. You will receive an automatically generated email confirming the transaction. You also have the option to pay by electronic transfer from your own bank or other account - follow the on-screen instructions.
